Negatives, 1930-1991 (Inclusive dates).

The collection generally represents negatives produced as a result of staff photographer assignments at the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin, 500linear feet); Philadelphia Inquirer, (1524 Linear feet); and the Philadelphia Daily News, (67 Linear feet). The collection contains materials on individuals and subjects relating to Philadelphia and the areas encompassing Pennsylvania east of Harrisburg, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware. Philadelphia Evening Bulletin negatives before 1972 have been heavily weeded by Bulletin staff. Some Philadelphia Inquirer negatives have been severely damaged. The collection also contains 70 linear feet of West Coast Negatives for the years 1936-1949. This group of negatives contains some contact prints and was produced by the Los Angeles office of MLA Publications, later Triangle Publications, the parent company of the Philadelphia Inquirer. These images are related to the needs of the various publication outlets of the parent company. The collection is heavily oriented towards the motion picture industry with some other topics such as horse racing, big bands, World War II, churches, wineries and night clubs within the greater Los Angeles area.
